Several discussions have been ongoing about the burning of dormitories in secondary school that have been in progress continuously for the past one month consecutively within the various counties throughout Kenya. Currently more than eighty schools have been set in blaze destroying millions of property. The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has even suggested that the schools be closed indefinitely for some time so that they can discuss the issue and find the way forward but the ministry of education has refused that that one cannot be the solution.
Can the new policies brought in the education sector by Hon. Matiang'i including banning of prayer days which have always been done prior to the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in attempt to curb the increased cases of exam irregulaties be some of the causes? I think to some extent it could be attribution because it's now like the devil is gaining some powers to take authority in the education sector.
To some extent, there is need for the schools to be closed as soon as possible so that the stakeholders in the education sector can convene a meeting and find the way forward. Corporal punishment also needs to be resurfaced because indiscipline cases are very rampant. Let the stakeholders to kindly take an action because if the vice continues it really worries where our education is headed to as a nation.
Or can resignation of Matiang'i as the education's cabinet secretary be the solution? Let's be on the watch.
